Brunel uses role-based access control (RBAC) to give you precise control over what each team member can do. Roles are assigned per organization and apply to everything within it.

The Four Roles

RoleDescription
OwnerFull access to everything, including billing and subscription management. Typically the person who created the organization.
AdminFull access to all features and settings, excluding billing. Can manage members, projects, and organization settings.
MemberCan create and work in sessions, upload context files, and use all planning features. Cannot manage members or manage projects at the organization level.
ViewerRead-only access. Can view all projects, sessions, and messages but cannot create, edit, or interact with any content.

Choosing the Right Role

  • Owner — assign to the technical lead or whoever owns the Brunel subscription
  • Admin — assign to engineering managers or team leads who need to manage members and projects
  • Member — the default for most developers. Full planning capabilities without org-level admin access
  • Viewer — ideal for stakeholders, product managers, or executives who need visibility into planning work without being able to modify anything

Changing a Member’s Role

Only Owners and Admins can change roles.
  1. Go to Settings → Members
  2. Find the member whose role you want to change
  3. Click the role dropdown next to their name
  4. Select the new role — the change takes effect immediately
